RCS Routing
The Challenge: Routing
Mobile messaging has quickly been established as a preferred method of communication across the globe, and now, end users and businesses alike depend on rich text message capabilities. With this reliance on mobile messaging comes a need to make the user experience even more powerful, engaging and versatile to suit evolving communications needs. After all, texting has become more than just text.
Traditional texting methods like SMS or MMS may not support encryption, messaging within groups, add-on apps for GIF and animation sharing or other options that are quickly becoming must-haves for users across the globe. As the dependence on text messaging grows, more and more end users are looking for the full scope of messaging capabilities — which means mobile network operators (MNOs) and communications service providers (CSPs) need to find an innovative solution.
To meet evolving demands within the complex communications ecosystem, RCS (Rich Communication Services) has emerged as the new standard. This is a next-generation option that delivers feature-rich results, enabling mobile users to send and receive high-quality media, leverage texting on WiFi, and other benefits, including the ability to see when friends are typing and easily utilize group chats.
The netnumber Solution
The RCS solution ecosystem is admittedly complex, featuring both mobile carrier services and alternative providers like Google. This can create challenges around routing and understanding how to navigate RCS hubs to send messages to the right destination.
RCS Routing solves these challenges by enabling interoperability for person-to-person RCS messaging. With netnumber ’ RCS Routing service, MNOs and CSPs can enable more accurate, efficient RCS routing and robust omnichannel messaging experience through the power of phone number intelligence and identification data.
With this solution, customers benefit from our near real-time RCS routing data, flexible deployment options, lightning-fast provisioning and fully redundant managed service to improve efficiency and create an enhanced mobile user experience.
Key Features
Up-to-Date RCS Routing Data
Mobile subscribers with an Android device have the choice of many messaging clients, so the data remains dynamic. netnumber receives updates in near real-time, ensuring the phone number status and service provider information are always accurate.
Fully Redundant Managed Service
netnumber operates a fully redundant platform that is managed and staffed 24×7. This ensures carrier-grade service availability and performance at all times.
Global Carrier Mapping Registry (GCMR)
RCS Routing customers get free access to the Global Carrier Mapping Registry (GCMR) database. The GCMR is the world’s most widely utilized carrier identification database. The GCMR identifies every communications service provider in the world (over 200 countries) via a six-digit routing ID called an NNID. The GCMR provides the translation of the NNID into key information about the destination operator.
Use Cases
With netnumber ’ RCS Routing solution, this advanced, next-generation protocol can be more completely supported by MNOs and CSPs.
Leveraging data and real-time updates from netnumber’s phone number intelligence service, MNOs and CSPs can more easily deliver next-generation RCS messaging capabilities while significantly improving efficiency and ensuring a better overall mobile user experience. These RCS solutions augment the existing netnumber Services Registry — an industry database that enables new, innovative telecommunications services. This database is used extensively by the North American messaging ecosystem to identify if a messaging service has been assigned to a given telephone number so that SMS and MMS messages can be routed effectively to text-enabled fixed-line numbers, mobile numbers allocated to a virtual (MVNO) operator, toll-free numbers, or VoIP operators. The netnumber Services Registry is also the key enabler of toll-free texting and 10-digit long code 10DLC (A2P messaging) campaign information.
When MNOs and CSPs have access to accurate, up-to-date, easy-to-integrate RCS routing data, they can deliver RCS messages to end users effectively, quickly and accurately. This brings multiple benefits:
Messages are delivered as RCS to the maximum extent possible by correctly identifying the RCS-enabled devices. Failover to other channels like SMS can be used only when the end-user does not have access to RCS.
Messages are delivered with minimum latency. Short delivery times improve end-user response rates and, for some use cases, are critical.
Benefits
- RCS services are empowered with quicker, more accurate routing.
- Service platform ensures low-latency, high-throughput traffic capabilities.
- Near real-time data keeps customers informed about their communications ecosystem.
- End users enjoy reliable, robust mobile messaging functionality.
- Flexible deployment options are available to suit individual customer needs.
